Supreme Winner of 2014 APL Awards Announced

“Essex based Stewart Landscape Construction Ltd has been awarded the top accolade at the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) Awards 2014, sponsored by Bradstone.

Their work on the vast grounds of an imposing Gothic Victorian rectory in Suffolk was hailed as a complete transformation making them worthy winners of the title.

The winners, announced at Gibson Hall in London on 12th March 2014, gain national recognition for their achievements and are testament to the high calibre landscaping offered by APL members.

Chair of the judges Richard Barnard comments “I never cease to be amazed at the constant high skill levels in producing such a variety of inspiring schemes by APL members. As we hopefully exit the economical restraints of recent years we are hit by atrocious weather conditions, yet this year’s awards show the strength and determination of companies in producing schemes of outstanding merit. The ceremony is an inspiring day for the industry.”

The awards, now in their 18th year, recognise and promote the very best in landscaping undertaken by APL members in categories that range from smaller projects, special features and garden maintenance. to contracts of over £250,000. The awards are a celebration of the high standards that have been achieved by members and demonstrate the APL’s commitment to quality landscaping.

This years judges were Richard Barnard from Hillier Landscapes, Bob Sweet, ex RHS Head of Garden Judging, Sorrel Everton from Gardens Illustrated, Robin Templar Williams of Robin Williams and Associated, and James Steele-Sargent from Arun Landscapes.”

Stewart Landscape Construction Winners Of Two APL Awards

March 13, 2014

Stewart Landscapes - Driveway 2

Stewart Landscape Construction is proud to announce receipt of not one, but two prestigious awards at the Association of Professional Landscapers awards in London yesterday.

We had been asked to implement a series of new designs for clients in rural Suffolk, to provide a setting for their imposing Victorian rectory. An award was presented for a scheme to the front of the house, which was hailed as a ‘complete transformation’ by the APL judges. We were also thrilled to receive the ‘Supreme Winner’ award, which is given to the best overall winner across all the award categories.

The project, designed by Jason Lock at DeakinLock, focused on the approach to the house through the park, as well as an ornamental area directly in the front of the house. The driveway is now flanked by an avenue of Tilia cordata, and the front of the house framed by a series of impressive hornbeam hedges. The clients could not be more pleased with the result, and the team here at Stewart Landscape are absolutely delighted that the quality of the work clinched us the top prize!

Stewart Landscape Construction shortlisted for Association of Professional Landscapers Award

February 18, 2014

Stewart Landscape Construction is proud to announce that we have been shortlisted for an award from the prestigious Association of Professional Landscapers (APL). The nomination comes in recognition of work undertaken to re-invent the gardens surrounding an imposing Gothic Victorian rectory in Suffolk.

Set in 50 acres of garden, parkland and grazing paddocks Stewart Landscape Construction set about implementing designs by DeakinLock to enhance the grandeur of the approach to the house as well as working on contemporary, simple gardens surrounding the property. The results are stunning and have caught the attention of the Association of Professional Landscapers.

The existing Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) tree-lined drive was widened and extensive care was taken to protect, restore and transplant the trees that were suffering badly from leaf miner with the original site being replaced with Lime (Tilia Cordata). The amendments to the approach avenue have been commended for amplifying the grandiosity and splendour of the building and the clients are thrilled with the results.

The work on the gardens immediately surrounding the house has gained an equal amount of recognition. The gardens have been praised for their subtle beauty and the simplicity of their design. The high quality technical finish provided by the Stewart Landscape Construction team has helped frame and intensify the magnificence of the house. Achieving this balance is harder than it looks and the Managing Director of Stewart Landscape Construction spoke about the challenges they faced:

Stewart Landscapes - Driveway 3

“Work continued on the rear gardens as construction to the front began, with designers DeakinLock and Stewart Landscape Construction working to stitch the two projects together.  Whilst it was an unusual way to manage a project, it allowed the client to keep it fluid, with the principle layout plan revised twenty three times as a result!  At times this was a challenge for all involved, but throughout, the enthusiasm and desire remained to deliver a high quality garden for the client.”

Stewart Landscape Construction is down to the final two in the APL Awards 2014: Project Value Over £250,000 category with results set to be announced at Gibson Hall, London on Wednesday 12th March.
